Film Festival Rules

When entering your film into Future Generations Film Festival, it must follow a series of rules for it to qualify:


  • This is a UK based Film Festival
  • To submit a film, you must have created the project yourself, own the rights or have permission from the owner of the content to submit the film to us
  • The director, producer and the majority of the production crew should be aged 16-25 at the time the film was made.
  • All short films in all categories must be a maximum of 20 minutes long.
  • The festival has the right to use clips, a trailer, stills and a poster from the films entered for promotional purposes.
  • Completion dates of the Film must have been within the last 2 years.
  • There is no premiere status required for the screening of the film.
  • The winners of Best short of the month and ‘Best First Time Filmmaker’ will be invited to the Annual Film festival.
  • We do not guarantee films will be selected for the Future Generation Film Festival, but we will notify all submitters, whether selected or not.
  • Films in a language other than English must be subtitled in English unless dialogue or commentary is unnecessary for comprehension and appreciation.
  • All the images and soundtracks used in your film must be your own or you must have the permission of the copyright holder to use their music/images in your film.
  • There are no refunds on the entry fee

Film Festival Laurels:

Selected – These are given to 3 of the selected within each category, the laurel alone signifies the inclusion of a network of young creatives and a selective community.

Winner – Winner Laurels are given to the individual short film of each category. This is the highest laurel which signifies your success at our festival

Certificates: The custom made certificates are awarded to the winners.

Reviews: Reviews are written by our team members and posted on our website as well as social media. Getting feedback is something we see as being critical to filmmakers within the industry. With just an extra cost we can

Entry: Once entered into the festival you are automatically entered into the sub categories of department awards. Which are: Best Cinematography, Best Sound Design, Best Music, Best Production Design and Best Editing.

Tickets: Tickets to enter your film in the festival are £15 (regular deadline) and £10 for the early bird deadline. This fee is per entry and for your film to be entered into the selection process. It will be judged to ensure it meets our criteria and what the festival stands for. If your film is selected it will then be judged by industry professionals who give criticism and feedback. Once the judges reach a decision for each category, a winner will be announced receiving a laurel and will automatically be entered in the annual festival receiving 2 tickets to the venue.

At the annual festival, the winner of the ‘best short film’ category will receive a cash prize and a trophy.
